Additional Information

Make checkerboard cakes as easy as 1-2-3 with Wilton's Checkerboard Cake Set. The set includes three 9-in. x 1.5-in. cake pans plus the dividing ring, making three-layer checkerboard cakes easy to bake and create. Whether you choose two different flavors or colors or more, the best part about this cake is the surprise that's inside that awaits your guests. Imagine the combinations! Whether you want a traditional flavor combination such as yellow and chocolate or something more unusual like chocolate and caramel or raspberry white and chocolate cakes, it's easy to combine two or three cake flavors or colors using the checkerboard dividing ring. For the holidays, choose seasonal color combinations. Be a team player and make your checkerboards in your favorite school or sporting team's colors. Bake a baby shower cake in pastels, or create a "reveal" cake: white-and-pink cake for a baby girl or white-and-blue cake for baby boy. School colors for the graduation cake? You bet! Whether it's a kids' birthday party in primary colors or a sophisticated cake in subdued tones, you'll have fun making cakes with the easy-to-use dividing ring. For two colors, simply place the dividing ring in the pan, fill the innermost section with color A, the next ring with color B and the outer ring with color A in two of the pans, and reverse the order for the third pan, removing the dividing ring using the easy-lift handles after filing each pan. Bake the cakes, layer, and your checkerboard is revealed with the first slice! For three colors, just alternate the placement of the batter for each layer.

Round Checkerboard Cake Pan Set is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 93.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I made this cake for a baby shower. I used blue, green and yellow. I followed the recipe on the box that the pans came in. It made a thicker batter. I had to separate the batter into 3 containers all the same size so I would get the batter divided evenly. Then I colored each container of batter. I started by pouring the batter into the center ring first. Then I did the middle ring and the outer ring. You must pour the batter slowly and evenly around the rings. Pull the ring out VERY SLOWLY so it doesn't disturb the colors. My cake turned out very well for the first time. Everyone was asking how I did it. I am anxious to try it again!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I think having a kit to create a checkerboard cake is a great idea, but for a company that specializes in decorating, it seems odd that they included nonstick pans that have sloped sides instead of basic aluminum pans with straight sides. Wilton makes some nice cake pans but these aren't it. I would gladly pay extra for pans that are more appropriate to creating a three layer cake. Because of the pans being nonstick, it was very difficult to make the divider insert stay in place while adding the batter. I would not recommend this product to anyone wanting to make a nice looking cake.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This was tricky to use. I made the cake 4 times and my squares would always come out wrong. once i even got a triangled look, then a marble look. But i fugured out a way to still work with it so i wouldnt have wasted my money. This is what i did to make a fool proof perfect checkered cake. Using the checkerboard cake set use the pan to make 4 solid cakes. (Your gonna have to use one pan twice. use 2 differnt mixes to get the checkerd look.) when its cooled. use the checkered divided as a cutter. when you have cut all of the cakes your gonna have many cakes of diferent sizes. When you done cutting assemble the cakes alternating different colors. it seems complicated but your get a perfect checkerd cake every time. Also it comes out beautifuly .

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The ring is the most valuable part of this Checkerboard Cake set. I used the set as directed making a 3 layer, 2 colored checker. When adding the batter to the pans, it leaks under the ring causing my cake colors to bleed. This last time I used the pans to bake 3 different layers in a single color. I used the ring to cut the cakes and reassemble them for the checkered effect. I think Wilton would do well to offer just the ring to be used in this way. But until then, I would recommend buying the set, even if only for the ring. here are some pictures of what I described above. The first is the set used as directed, showing bleeds: And this is the cake I assembled myself:

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love the checker board set. I have used it several times and I have had no trouble with it at all. The cake comes out amazing. People ask me how I do it I just smile. This is wonderful. I have been reading about the problems people are having. I think the reason they are having is this: first be sure it is firmly placed in pan. I push it gently down to make sur it is seated right. Second I dont use the instructions on the box and I make my own cake mix the way I want it. It turns out beautiful each time. Also you have to be sure to lift up straight and slowly or it will mix. Thanl you wilton for this pan

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I wanted to surprise my kids for Easter Sunday dinner! I baked the Easter Basket Cake using the specialty pan and it turned out beautiful! They all asked "how did you do that" !! It was fun to see when it was finished. I made a white wedding cake frosting and made a basket-weave cake. The inside was pink, purple and yellow checker board and it was so pretty. Easy to use, just use a white cake mix and make any colors you want. Great for any holiday! Fun, fun... I also added fondant Daisey Flower cut outs on the top of the basket cake. It was beautiful and tasted so good!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Every time I had tried to make a checkerboard cake, the cake batter had always leaked into the other cake batter. I had tried adding more eggs to the cake batter and still had problems. I tend to agree with the other reviews when they had said that the insert should be made out of metal instead of plastic. The handles should clip on so the insert would not move around. It would be a great product to use if there wasn't a problem with the cake batter leaking.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This worked great Bake 2 full layers of each of 2 flavors you want to make your checker board from (I used dark chocolate and orange). Remove the layers from the pan, cool and freeze. When frozen use the dividers to cut each layer into the appropriate pieces to "assemble" the checker board...outside and center pieces in chocolate on 2 layers, outside and center orange on one layer, filling in with the opposite flavor. the checker board is clean with no flavors bleeding into the other cake batter. Simply press the divider straight down into each layer. Because the cake is frozen it is not so fragile. Because you are using the dividers they fit perfectly. I was thinking strawberry and pistachio next cake for spring....or maybe lemon and orange! I made this for Mothers Day with Swiss buttercream. You will love this pan.
