Cappuccino buttercream is a perky mix of instant coffee and cream - perfect with any kind of chocolate cupcakes.

Step 1

In small bowl, combine milk, instant coffee and vanilla. In large bowl, beat shortening and butter with electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy. Gradually add sugar, one cup at a time, beating well on medium speed. When all sugar has been mixed in, icing will appear dry. Scrape sides and bottom of bowl often. Beat in milk mixture. Continue beat at high speed until light and fluffy.

Step 2

Keep icing covered with a damp cloth until you are ready to decorate. For best results, keep icing bowl in refrigerator when not using. Re-whip before using.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from made it for a co-workers cake. great taste and smell, especially paired with a chocolate flavor. it actually took color - not the brilliant colors when using white icing --but still colorful. Also I had to use a bit more color then i normally would. I used all shortening (no butter) b/c i wanted a stiffer consistency that wouldn't start to droop in a warm tempuratures. Got rave reviews and requests for the recipie. you can't go wrong.
