Candy-Dipped Marshmallow Graduation Caps


Graduation day? Sweet! Celebrate with Candy Melts candy-dipped marshmallow mortarboard pops. Tint melted white candy with Candy Colors to match your school colors for perfect party treats or use black Candy Melts candy for a traditional look. Fondant tassels can be tinted with icing color to match.

Step 1

Make mortarboards. Melt black and white Candy Melts candy, separately, according to package directions. Separate white melted candy into two bowls. Use red and black candy colors to tint one bowl of white melted candy burgundy. Use green candy color to tint one bowl of white melted candy green.

Place straight side of third smallest (1 5/8 in.) square cut-out on parchment-covered board. Use melted tinted candy in cut parchment bag to fill cut-out 1/8 in. deep. Chill to set, about 10 to 15 minutes.

Step 2

Dip marshmallows. Use food-safe scissors to cut tops of marshmallows into dome shape.

Dip lollipop stick in melted candy and insert lollipop stick into flat side of marshmallow. Place in pops decorating stand and chill until set, about 3 to 5 minutes.

Dip marshmallows in melted tinted candy. Tap gently to remove excess. Place in stand and chill until set, about 10 to 15 minutes.

Step 3

Make fondant tassel. Tint fondant yellow. Roll fondant log, 3/16 in. dia. x 1 1/2 in. long, for the tassel string, tapering one end. Roll a fondant ball, 1/4 in. dia., for the tassel knot. Form a 3/8 in. ball of fondant into a teardrop shape, 3/4 in. long x 1/4 in. dia. at wider end. Use knife to imprint lines into teardrop to resemble tassel fringe.

Bend the tassel string in half at a 90° angle. Use damp brush to attach knot to wider end of tassel string. Use damp brush to attach narrow end of tassel to knot. Let dry on parchment-covered board, about 30 minutes.

Step 4

Assemble cap. Use melted tinted candy in cut parchment bag to attach candy square to top of cap. Use melted candy in cut parchment bag to attach narrow end of tassel string to top of cap.
