Step 1

2 days in advance: Make Color Flow spikes. Tape spike patterns to cake board; cover with waxed paper. Outline with tip 3 and full-strength Color Flow; let set. Flow in with thinned Color Flow in cut parchment bag. Let dry 48 hours.

Step 2

Make cookies. Prepare and roll out dough. For dragon, use patterns and knife to cut out three tails, three necks and four heads, one each back leg and front leg. For knights, cut cookies with boy cutter. Bake and cool cookies. And: Prepare base board. Position pan, and one cookie of each shape on board to form dragon shape. Trace shape and cut base board; cover with foil.

Step 3

Bake and cool football cake. Decorate dragon body cake and cookies with buttercream icing.

Stack tail and head/ neck cookies with icing; attach single head. Position all cookies except legs on prepared base board. Use tip 4 to pipe in mouth; pat smooth with finger dipped in cornstarch. Pipe in tip 2 teeth; pat smooth. Use tip 4 to outline stomach and neck sections, spacing sections 1 in. apart on stomach area, 3/4 in. apart on neck. Pipe in sections with tip 16 stars. Cover tail, back and top of neck with tip 104 ruffle scales. Pipe tip 12 ball eyes; pat smooth. Pipe tip 3 dot pupils; pat smooth. Ice nostril area smooth. Use tip 12 to outline, building up nostrils and eyebrows for dimension. Cover head with tip 16 stars. Use tip 4 to outline feet; fill in with tip 16 stars. Cover top of legs with tip 104 ruffle scales. Position leg cookies.

Step 4

Position leg cookies. Insert spikes for each section, supporting with mini marshmallows as needed. For knight cookies, outline bodies with tip 3 and full-strength gray icing; flow in with thinned icing.

Step 5

Let dry. Use full strength icing for details. Place cookies on parchment-covered boards. Outline and fill in skin tone area using tip 2; pat smooth. Outline and fill in helmet and mask using tip 3; pat smooth. Brush gray areas with Pearl Dust. Use tip 2 to pipe dot eyes, outline mouth, eyebrows and waistline. Use tip 1 to pipe outline vents on helmet. Pipe plume feathers with tip 17. Let dry. Position knight cookies.
