Bake and cool baby buggy cake. Cake is one layer, 2 in. high. Use knife to trim off scalloped areas of bottom two canopy sections. Place cake on foil-wrapped board, cut to fit positioning carriage wheels on left side, canopy on right side.

Prepare buttercream icing following recipe directions. Tint portions violet/rose combination (for violet), rose/violet combination (for rose), black, sky blue and lemon yellow/orange combination (for yellow). Reserve remaining white.

Step 2

Decorate cake. Use spatula and blue icing to ice cake top and sides smooth. Use toothpick and pattern to mark whale on cake top. Use spatula and yellow icing to ice lips smooth. Use tip 3 and white icing to pipe eye. Pat smooth with finger dipped in cornstarch. Use tip 3 and black icing to pipe in pupil and outline eye. Use tip 3 and violet icing to outline whale.

Use tip 18 and violet icing to fill in body with stars. Use tip 18 and rose icing to pipe elongated shell fins. Use tip 1A and white icing to pipe ball bubble. Pat smooth. Use tip 3 and blue icing to pipe outline highlights on bubbles. Use tip 12 and blue icing to pipe ball bottom border.
