Thanksgiving Dessert Ideas

November 12th, 2009 by Nancy Siler

Most people have traditional items the family is used to having at Thanksgiving. A bit like expected comfort food such as at my house, broccoli rice casserole, green bean casserole, mashed and sweet potatoes, dressing/stuffing plus the inevitable turkey whether he’s basted with orange juice or has herbs placed under his skin and onion/garlic in the cavity. Dessert is a different matter.

Yes we have pumpkin pie. Sometimes it’s “straight,” sometimes candied nut topped and occasionally it’s “chiffoned.” Then there is the other dessert. That’s where I get creative.

Autumn Nut CheesecakeLike Cheesecake? Try the Autumn Nut Cheesecake with Glazed Pecan Topping which uses meringue powder, pure vanilla extract and a round baking pan for the nuts. Prepare extra nuts and put them out as a dessert…they are very good! For the cheesecake recipe you will definitely need a 9” Springform Pan.

If you want a more traditional pie, go for the Autumn Apple Pie which uses the Harvest Mini Metal Cutter Set apple for the steam holes in the crust. Cute.

Need something different, try the Fall Harvest Cobbler. All you need is the food ingredients, a 13 X 9” baking pan and the Harvest Mini Metal Cutter Set.

Looking for a cake? The Harvest Hayride Cake is like a spice cake so perfect for the season and you can show your creativity. Take a shortcut by using the premade Decorator Icing and a cake mix. The Fire Truck Pan really looks like a truck when decorated.

Most people like a pound cake so instead of using a plain pan select the Dimensions® Pumpkin pan or Dimensions® Multi-Cavity Pumpkin pan. Add some Thanksgiving spices to a pound cake mix, drizzle with cinnamon flavored glaze and you have an easy dessert everyone will love. For more dessert inspiration, browse our Thanksgiving ideas!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family and friends!!
