Take a Walk on the Wild Side with Zebra-Striped Valentine Cookies

February 7th, 2012 by Cassie Dietrich

Valentine’s Day is the time of year that I like to make something special for my friends. It is a small token to let them know they are a special part of my life. Instead of the expected truffles or homemade marshmallow that I have gifted in the past, I wanted to mix it up and try something new.

Cookie decorating is a kitchen art that I am not very versed in. For some reason it has always intimidated me. I would rather make a soufflé than decorate cookies! So this novice decided to get over her fear of cookie decorating by using Sugar Sheets!™ edible decorating paper, Punch. Cut. Decorate!™ punch set and cookie icing.

Cutting Out Heart Cookies

For my first go around, I purchased refrigerated sugar cookie dough and added 1/4 cup flour to help maintain the shape of the cut out cookie. After lining my cookie sheet with Parchment Paper, I used my From the Heart Nesting Metal Cutter Set to cut out perfect heart-shaped cookies.

Heart Shaped Zebra Sugar Sheets

While the cookies cooled, I proceeded to cut smaller sized hearts out of the Zebra print Sugar Sheets! using the Punch Set and Heart Cutting Insert. What a great tool for making perfect shapes out of Sugar Sheets!™

Adding Pink Cookie Icing Border

To finish my decorating, I used Pink Cookie Icing to add a fun girly border to the cookies. I am a huge fan of animal prints and love how I was able to create cookies that show my fun side!

Cookie Treat Box

The last step in my Valentine gifting is the presentation. I chose the Valentine Metallic Treat boxes to showcase my cookies, and the included stickers are a great way to personalize each box. I think these will be a hit!
