Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. It’s a great time to celebrate with fun and colorful desserts.
This year, I wanted to experiment with tinted cake batter. I used a caramel cake mix and a vanilla mix. I tinted the caramel cake mix with black Wilton Icing Color. I used orange icing color for one half of the vanilla mix, and purple icing color for the other half.
I began by pouring the black batter in the sprayed Fluted Tube Pan. Next, pour the orange batter and finally the purple. I did not blend the batter, but simply poured them on top of each other. I baked the cake at 325 degrees for about 40-45 minutes.
After the cake had cooled, I drizzled the top with Confectioners’ Sugar Glaze. The glaze looks really white when you begin to drizzle on the cake, but then becomes translucent. I added sprinkles on the glaze. The glaze helps keep the sprinkles adhered to the cake.
When I sliced the first piece of cake – wow! The colors were so bright and vivid. My family was in awe! Have you experimented with tinted batter?
