Creating a multi-color icing swirl might be easier than you think. It makes a statement or color scheme pop, and takes just a few extra minutes. Honest.
Snip 1/2 inch off the other 3 bags and fill each with 1/2 cup of icing – 1 color per bag. Set the bags on top of each other and align the tops of each bag. Holding all 3 bags at once, drop them evenly into the bag with the 1M tip. Apply a bit of pressure evenly around the top of the bag to start the flow or icing and eliminate air bubbles.
Apply even pressure and ice your cupcakes in a swirl or rosette pattern. The colors will mix slightly and swirl together – so pretty! This method is also great for doing multiple flavors in 1 bag (like Neapolitan – strawberry, chocolate, vanilla).
You can also try different looks with different tips. A Round 1A tip creates a smooth surface and showcases the colors. A Large Drop Flower tip creates multi-colored flowers or an Open Star Tip creates texture. Also fun is the grass technique using Tip 233 – with multiple colors it looks like confetti!
However you choose to do it – have fun playing with icing!
