Hey Dad! Fun Family Ideas for Mother’s Day

April 29th, 2010 by Nancy Siler

Hey Dad, what could be better than breakfast in bed and a bouquet of edible flowers for Mom on Mother’s Day? Round up the kids and head to the kitchen to give Mom some TLC and bouquet of sweet treats on her special day. It’s fun for everyone to pitch in to help create something special for Mom, so whip up some Very Berry Muffins and/or a bouquet of Cookie Pops!

These attractive bouquets of sugar cookies can be made before Mother’s Day to provide plenty of time for fun decorating with the kids! Prepare your favorite sugar cookie recipe or add a little flour to refrigerated cookie dough and let the decorating festivities begin. Three variations are Bugs & Blossoms Cookies, Cookie Pops or Bright Bouquet Cookies….almost like you’re ordering a floral selection but you and the kids “did it yourself” and made something from the heart for the “tummy.” Don’t forget Grandma or Auntie either.

Very Berry Muffins For MomIf this idea seems a little overwhelming or the kids are a bit younger, try making muffins for Mom on that big day. Let Mom sleep in and get the kids together to make a batch of Very Berry Muffins. Begin with the blueberry muffin mix, and finish with orange zest (the grated peel of orange skin) and fresh or frozen raspberries. Let the kids help with the mixing and stirring.

Pour the batter into Wilton’s Silly-Feet! Silicone Baking Cups (the batter fill line in each cup lets you know how much batter to pour) and bake. The muffins pop out easily from the Silicone Baking Cups, and Silly-Feet! give everyone a giggle. They make a colorful and fun way to serve the muffins. Mom will love photos of you and the kids anchored to the muffins with zany Add-A-Message Fun Pix®. Serve it all up to Mom with love and a smile. She’ll be thrilled. And any leftover muffins can be frozen for breakfast when she’s really busy.

Sharing kitchen time with the kids is fun and provides a wonderful life skill experience.
