Here’s to a SWEET April Fool’s!

March 29th, 2011 by Carlie Paul

April 1st is April Fool’s Day and what better prank than fooling your friends and family with desserts that do not look like dessert? You will trick their eyes and surprise their taste buds with cakes and cookies that look like savory favorites.

Imagine what a surprise it will be when your Italian dinner turns into pasta dessert! The On Top of Spaghetti Cake is a great cake to try even if you are new to cake decorating because it doesn’t have to be perfect — the imperfections are what makes it look more believable as a plate of spaghetti and meatballs.

On Top Of Spaghetti Cake & A Slice of Summertime Cake

It is amazing how a little bit of icing coloring and mini chocolate chips can transform a cake into a mouthwatering slice of watermelon. A Slice of Summertime Cake is another simple way to fool your friends with an extra sweet serving of “watermelon.” Adding plastic ants will really make you take a double look at this look-alike treat.

Sweet Supreme Pizza Cookie Everyone will think you ordered takeout when they see the Sweet Supreme Cookie Pizza, but they will be in for an April 1st surprise! The sugar cookie crust sets the stage for this fruit pizza with kiwi “green peppers,” fruit leather “pepperoni,” and coconut “cheese.” I suggest serving this look-alike in a pizza box to make it even more authentic!

Cheeseburger and French Fries (NOT) Cake My personal favorite is the Cheeseburger and French Fries (NOT) Cake. This is a super-sized dessert that is really three desserts in one: cake, brownie, and cookies!

The hamburger bun is yellow cake, the hamburger patty is a brownie, and the french fries are sugar cookies. This is one April Fool’s joke that any sweet tooth would appreciate!

Great Blog post! I made Spaghetti and Meatball cupcakes and used Ferrero Rocher Candy as the meatballs – the texture made them look extremely realistic!

Grind up oreo cookies coarsely so they look like dirt, put choc pudding in bottom of small plastic flower pot, cover with the oreo-dirt, insert plastic flower and serve chilled. People freak when they see you eating the “soil”. It’s my fave treat to bring to parties and can be made with soy milk and sugar-free choc pudding for us diabetic and/or lactose intolerant – oreos are also available sugar-free :)

This is so fun – thinking you’re eating a bite of spaghetti, in stead of that it’s a piece of cake… I love it!

OMG! That would be so much fun. It’s kinda like that one episode of Cake Boss where he made a lot of different foods and when the people took a bite into the “pickles, hamburger, shrimp, and hot dog” they were blown out of the water!!! :) TTYL

I made a kitty litter cake and took it to my co-workers for April Fools Day this year! Everyone was totally grossed out but there was not a drop of it left!!
