Whether you are one of the first Wilton students who took a course back in 1975 or the 4,000,000th student in 2009, the “fun”damental cake decorating techniques you learned in your Wilton courses are pretty similar. Spatulas, bags, tips and icing colors have turned simple cakes and icing into colorful and vivid memories.

Wilton courses are multi-generational. I first became interested in cake decorating when Grandma decorated panoramic sugar eggs at Easter one year when I was a little girl. Sometime during my teen years, I started baking cakes and wanted to make icing decorations. Then, when I was a young mother, Mom and I took Wilton courses together.
Guess what? My twenty-two year old daughter wants to take Wilton courses too! I can’t tell you how excited I am about that. She has helped me with cakes and parties over the years as well as making holiday gifts for her teachers as she was growing up. Even though she is not married or a mom yet, she wants to carry on the family tradition and learn about cake decorating on her own. It’s a great life skill and will help her build artistic confidence. I am thinking of giving her a Wilton Student Kit and a course for Christmas this year.
Four generations of cake decorators in my family is pretty cool to me. I envision a mother – daughter team making wedding cakes together in the near future!
I have another dream. It’s taking a course at the Wilton School of Confectionary Art in Darien, IL! Maybe it’s your dream too. It’s not too late to register for the 4,000,000th Student Sweepstakes where you might win the all expense paid trip to the Wilton School or a $100 Wilton product gift certificate. The Sweepstakes ends October 30th so enter now before you get busy making Halloween treats for your little ghosts and goblins! Visit Wilton 4,000,000th Student Sweepstakes to enter.
