Darth Vader™ Cake Pan

April 23rd, 2012 by Joanne Winston-Spencer

Wilton has been delighting consumers with licensed character shaped pans way before SpongeBob moved into his pineapple under the sea, and even before Elmo made a name for himself on Sesame Street™. Three decades ago, Wilton first introduced a Star Wars™ line of products. More than 30 years later, those pans can still be found for sale online. No longer will our customers need to search the galaxy (or eBay) for a Darth Vader™ Cake Pan. This popular pan is being re-introduced!

Darth Vader CakeStar Wars™ has been in our top 10 character searches on Wilton.com for quite some time. With thousands of searches in 2011, a strong video game following, and movies being re-released in theaters in 3D, we thought it just might be time to develop a new line.

The force was unstoppable when our customers made it perfectly clear they loved Star Wars™. In a 2011 Facebook survey asking about all-time favorite Wilton licensed character pans, Star Wars™ pans were #1.

And so we got to work. Darth’s helmet shaped pan was designed to hold one cake mix and is sure to please all the Lukes and Leias out there.

Watch for this pan in late Summer. Is the force strong in your household? Tell me about it!

This looks really cool, but I’m wondering about how all the black icing will taste and what color the guests lips will be! Will there be a black tint with no taste that can be used?

    • Trish S. says:

If you make the frosting chocolate first, it will have a good flavor. It is also easier to produce a true black with less gel color by starting with chocolate. Hope your guests like chocolate!

I’ve got an original foil Darth Vader pan from 1982 still in its original box. It’s one of our family’s treasures! we pull it out to make the cake once every year or two.

The key to the icing is starting with dark chocolate, and adding a little black to it. Then the outlines and his eyes get chocolate icing with extra black to get them a little darker.

I have the Darth Vader pan (not foil) with the inserts. My Mom just gave them to me along with R2D2… I remember when my Mom made them when I was little!

For those of you in Southern Ca. looking for this pan, I saw it at Party City. I think it was no more tan $20, I can’t recall for sure. I was going to buy it but I’ve never made this kind of cake. My son is really into starwars right now and his birthday is right around corner.
