Create Precise Cake Layers with a Cake Leveler

April 13th, 2012 by Cindy Rosenwald

One of my favorite decorating tools is the cake leveler. I cannot torte a cake without one. Wilton’s updated small cake leveler makes it easier than ever to create perfectly level cake tops and layers.

Small Cake LevelerCreating a smooth, level cake top is a breeze with the leveler’s new wavy wire. The wire gently glides through the cake – leaving a smooth cake surface from the initial cut into the cake all the way through the layer.

The new leveler feels sturdy and stable. A plastic handle grip was added for stability and ease of use. The flat, hard plastic feet do a great job helping the leveler slide across the counter during use.

Lining up both sides of the cutting wire is quick and easy. The clearly defined height markers are a great addition!

The small leveler is the perfect size for the cakes I usually make. It cuts smooth, even layers in cakes up to 10 inches wide. Have you tried a cake leveler?

But will this new leveler fit in my Ultimate caddy? It does not appear to be so….. :(

I have purchased many different types/brands of levelers and have never found one that works! For small cakes they are fine, just as I’m sure this one would be as it says it’s for smaller cakes, however I seem to have just as good or better results for all sizes using a bread knife.

I have a large leveler that has a bread knife type blade on it… it works great… especially with sheetcakes & other larger cakes!

  4. I have one of the original levelers and the wire is not grooved so a bit hard to get started. The fold up leveler I just don’t like the stability but I like how easy it is to start. This looks like it is a combination of the best of both cutters. Looking forward to trying it out.
