The word “granita” sounds like a mighty fancy treat, but it’s really just a semi-frozen dessert made from water, sugar, fruit and other flavors. As we move further into summer and temperatures begin to rise, an icy granita is the perfect way to cool down.
Some of my favorite memories growing up were going to ice cream shops and getting GIANT ice cream cones. My favorite indulgence was the waffle cone, filled with a scoop or two of the chocolate peanut butter ice cream. I made sure it was so full that I had to eat it with one of the long sundae spoons. I was a kid. Giant ice cream cones made me smile. Heck, they still do! All of the different flavors, the funny upside-down cones decorated like clowns, all the toppings… Mmm… I’m salivating just thinking about it. (more…)
One of my favorite parts of spring is the return of color. After the holidays, winter is muted and neutral, filled with charcoal and heather gray, black, and brown. When bits of color start showing up, whether they’re plants popping through the cold or in peoples’ warmer weather outfits, it’s an instant mood lifter. (more…)
