In advance: Make players, per the following steps. Use white fondant and fondant colors from Multi Packs. Roll out 1/8 in. thick unless otherwise specified. Attach pieces using thinned fondant adhesive. After assembling standing figures, insert trimmed 3 in. Lollipop Stick up through one leg, leaving 1 1/2 in. exposed to insert into cake. Stand in waxed paper-covered craft block to dry. Let kneeling catcher dry on waxed paper-covered board; adjust pose for balance.
Jerseys: Shape fondant into a 3/4 x 1 1/4 x 1 in. high rectangle, slightly tapered toward the top. Attach jersey to pants. Roll 5/8 in. balls of fondant into tapered 5/16 x 1 in. long sleeves. Pinch at shoulder and attach to jerseys. Attach hands and mitts, bat and ball, positioning arms and hands for various poses. Insert heads, adjusting poses as necessary. Cut out player numbers and attach to backs.
Pants: Shape fondant into a 3/4 x 1 1/4 x 1 in. high rectangle. Cut 5/8 in. slit to make legs. Separate legs for standing poses; shape and round edges. For catcher, stretch legs to 1 1/2 in. long; bend at 3/4 in. for kneeling pose. Attach shoes.
Caps: Shape a 1 in. ball; cut in half for 2 caps. For brim, roll out some fondant. Cut a circle using wide end of tip 2A; move tip back 1/4 in. and cut again. Attach brim. Attach cap to topper.
Batter?s Helmet: Use 1/2 oz. ball of fondant. Press over topper, trimming edge as needed. Cut ear holes using narrow end of tip 3; widen slightly. For brim, roll out some fondant. Cut a circle using wide end of tip 1A; move tip back 3/8 in. and cut again. Attach.
Catcher?s Mask: Roll out black. Cut using wide end of tip 2A. Cut center using wide end of tip 3; remove. Attach to topper, shaping to face. Roll 1/8 in. diameter rope, 5 in. long. Cut 1 1/4 in. lengths and attach for mask guards.
Shoes: Roll out fondant. Cut using wide end of tip 3. Thin and taper toward heel.
Equipment: Roll 5/8 in. ball of fondant into 2 x 1/4 in. diameter tapered bat. Flatten and shape 1/2 in. balls of fondant into 3/4 in. wide mitts; cut thumb with knife. Roll a 3/8 in. diameter baseball.
Hands: Flatten and shape a 3/8 in. ball of fondant into 1/2 in. long hand. Flatten wrist edge.
Also in advance: Make flags. Cut 1 1/4 x 2 1/4 in. wide paper flags. Print message with marker. Glue to Lollipop Sticks. And: Prepare base board. Using field pattern, cut board 1 in. larger on all sides. Wrap with foil.
Bake and cool 1-layer cakes. Cut square cake diagonally in half. Position cake on prepared board with cut edge against straight edge of half-round. Trim half-round sides to match. Ice smooth.
Use pattern to mark infield and paths; mark 2 in. diameter pitcher?s mound in the center. Cover paths and mound with brown sugar. Roll out white fondant 1/8 in. thick. Cut four 1 x 1 in. bases; trim home plate for point. Attach. Shape fondant circle 1 3/4 x 1/2 in. high for pitcher?s mound; attach then cover with sugar. Pipe tip 3 baselines. Pipe tip 233 grass border. Insert players and flags.
