Baked Cake Donuts Recipe


Homemade doughnuts are simply sublime! This basic donut recipe lets you decorate in any style you choose—with icing, a Candy Melts glaze or drizzle, sprinkles, whatever you can imagine!

Step 1

NEEDED:

  • 2 cups cake flour, sifted
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted

Step 2

Preheat oven to 425°F. Spray doughnut pan with vegetable cooking spray.

Step 3

In large bowl, sift together flour, sugar, baking powder, nutmeg and salt. Add buttermilk, eggs and butter. Beat until just combined. Fill each pan cavity approximately 2/3 full.

Step 4

Bake 7-9 minutes or until the tops of the donuts spring back when touched. Let cool in pan 4-5 minutes before removing. Finish donuts with chocolate or vanilla glaze, or cinnamon sugar. Donuts are best served fresh.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Baked donuts I was very disappointed in this recipe. The recipe was more like a dough then batter so therefore hard to put in donut pan. There was little flavor even with the nutmeg. Certainly not what I expected but did love the donut pan!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Baked Donuts I was very disappointed in these donuts. I replaced the nutmeg with cinnamon. They were taseteless and dense and rubbery, a very tough donut. I was very disappointed for this recipe to have come from Wilton.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Sticky dough I tried this recipe but instead of a batter, it was a very sticky dough. Is that the way it's supposed to be? It was hard trying to put it into the bake sheet because of it's consistency. It seemed like it needed more liquid?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Nothing Like the Fried Donuts There is no fault in the recipe. All baked well and its quite an easy recipe to follow. Didn't like the taste of it and didn't like the texture of it. Do not add nutmeg at lease don't use a full tea spoon as the recipe says. Its more like a cake.

I know baked ones aren't going to be in taste or appearance as grand as the unhealthy ones, but I had hoped for a tasty alternative. Still wonder why nutmeg would be added, as have never seen before in doughnuts. Faint taste, but no positive addition by using it. My product results when cooked was heavy with little flavor. I added the chocolate icing per glaze, but nada to being any more tasty. I do love the Wilton doughnut pans though so a star added for that.
