Additional Information

Step 1

In advance: Prepare baby topper. For boy or girl: Tint 4 oz. fondant copper. Roll out fondant 1/8 in. thick as needed. Tape top hole of head globe closed. Cut a 6 in. fondant circle. Brush globe with Piping Gel and cover with fondant, smoothing with hands. Trim excess fondant; cut fondant away from bottom hole. Let dry. Use FoodWriter to draw black eyes and smile on both; draw pink cheeks on baby girl. Reserve excess fondant for hands.

Step 2

Baby girl: Roll out 3 oz. white fondant 1/8 in. thick as needed. Cut a 6 in. diameter circle. Brush body globe with Piping Gel and cover with circle, smoothing with hands and shaping a ruffled bottom edge. Trim as needed. Clear fondant from top hole; attach head. Use reserved copper fondant to roll 3/8 x 1 1/4 in. long log arms. Flatten one end for hand and cut slits for fingers. Attach arms using damp brush. Roll out white. Cut a 1 1/4 in. circle; cut in half to make two sleeves. Attach cut edge to body and wrap around arms. Cut two 1 x 2 in. wide diamonds. Fold each in half to make 1 in. wide loop for half of bow; attach to head. Roll small ball; attach for knot.

Step 3

Baby boy: Roll out white fondant 1/8 in. thick as needed. Cut a 6 in. diameter circle. Brush globe with Piping Gel and cover with circle of fondant, smoothing with hands. Trim excess and clear both holes; attach pillar and head. Shape 1 x 3/4 in. flattened oval shoes; attach using damp brush. Cut two triangles for 1 1/4 in. wide bowtie; attach. Roll small ball for knot; attach. Roll two 2 x 1/2 in. log arms; shape and attach. Use copper fondant to shape 3/4 x 1/2 in. flattened oval hands. Use knife tip to indent fingers; attach with damp brush.

Step 4

Bake and cool 2-layer cakes using firm-textured batter such as pound cake. Assemble each pillow on a cut-to-fit cake board. Prepare cakes for Stacked Construction. Ice and cover cakes working with one pillow at a time. Ice smooth and cover top layer with fondant. Smooth fondant and trim at seam. Place cake board on top and carefully flip to position covered layer on the bottom. Ice smooth and cover new top layer with fondant; smooth and trim. Immediately score 45° lines 1 1/2 in. apart using Cutter/Embosser fitted with wavy wheel. Repeat process for next two pillows. Paint top half of cakes with Pearl Dust. Use fondant and Fabric Mold to make 144 buttons. Attach where lines cross using damp brush. Use fondant and mold to make rick-rack trim sections (28 in. for top, 40 in. for middle, 52 in. for bottom layer). Attach over side seams. Trim pillar from Globe Set to 7 in.

Step 5

At reception: Assemble stacked cakes. Insert pillar in top tier and slide on baby.
